IT Champion recommended that ELF migrate their data to Microsoft SharePoint online.

IT Champion have been delivering unlimited IT support for ELF for a few years.

Recently the organisation wanted to replace an ageing server infrastructure that they accessed via remote desktop. Additionally, the organisation’s data needed re-structuring and they also wanted to transition to a Microsoft Teams voice phone system.

Key elements of their requirements included:

  • Replacement of old on-premise server with a cloud-based system
  • Migration to Microsoft Teams for Telephony
  • User account rationalisation
  • Data access and structure reconfiguration and governance
  • Intranet for full-time employees
  • Extranet for volunteers
  • Hand-over training

Following a detailed discussion about the many different options available to replace their server infrastructure, IT Champion recommended that ELF migrate their data to Microsoft SharePoint Online. This would ensure that all users have secure access to their data from any location with an internet connection, with the added advantage of a new data structure, enhanced data governance and the ability to develop an intranet and extranet for collaboration.

Elf aims to lighten the load, supporting families affected by blood cancers and disorders across the Southwest.

Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF) is a registered charity providing vital support to patients with blood cancer and related conditions who attend the Haematology Centre at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (RD&E).

Over the years, they have funded the following projects:

  • Construction of the RD&E Hospital Haematology Centre
  • An extension of Yarty Ward with a critical care family suite
  • Specialist equipment and fittings for the Haematology Centre
  • Haematological research projects
  • Accommodation for families near the RD&E Hospital
  • ELF-funded positions at the RD&E Hospital, including clinical nurse specialists and generic therapists

Alongside funding vital projects, they also offer day to day services to support patients and families.

The project was planned by a senior IT Champion SharePoint Consultant.

The project was a huge success, and the organisation now benefits from a modern workplace IT environment that is logical, as well as easy to access and use. The utilisation of SharePoint online as a single location for all information and data has been invaluable in enabling staff to seamlessly work from any location.

The key elements of the project were to:

  • Decommission on-premise server
  • Migrate and restructure all data to SharePoint online
  • Implemented and configured Microsoft Teams for telephony and conferencing services
  • Ensure that user accounts were setup correctly
  • Set users devices for single sign-on to Office 365 and SharePoint
  • Create a branded Intranet for announcements, news and collaboration
  • Create an Extranet hub for volunteers to access information
  • Redirect user’s documents to OneDrive
  • Delivery of bespoke training

“It has been a pleasure working with IT Champion, who has remained professional throughout this project. The migration of data to Sharepoint has enabled the team to work more collaboratively, supported remote working and has ensured the storage of information is accessible easy to manage. IT Champion has continued to support us beyond the implementation, where any adaptations or training have been required. They have been a delight to work with.”
